deep woods

I came home after work to find a large bird perched in my yard on the clothes line, I dunno what kind of bird it was as I'm not really a bird guy;  I immediately thought of a cormorant but I know it wasn't that, probably some kind of egret.  I took some camphone pics, but they don't come out well.  I went driving around and saw Jean Lafitte's old house which is 3 blocks from mine and cached it.  Then I drove down to Pelican Island with Freya and got 3 more caches there, and holy christ there were so many mosquitos, I had hundreds in my truck and they wouldn't leave.  I think I have over a hundred bites on me now.  I had to clamber half a mile into the wilderness to get to one cache where the mosquitos were covering me like one of those Guiness World Records guys with bees all over him.  Let me tell you how that Off Skintastic works, like it was made out of Au Jus.  I went to get the last one, just at twilight, and I got so focused on my GPSr I came 2 feet from stepping on a 3-foot long cottonmouth as big around as my forearm.  It slithered right where the cache was in the grass, so I decided to let him have it for today and come back another time. 4 caches is pretty good for me though.  In the winter when the bugs die down, it should be a pretty neat place to hike I think.
