A windowless world of humming and buzzing

Well I've been without DSL access for a day or so and of course been about 20 points higher on my blood pressure because of it. After calling tech support, I realized (though he didn't) that my goddamn PCI card has come loose. Again. This is the 2nd or 3rd time that I've had a card come loose on this motherboard. I am sick and tired of this shit. I will not be buying anymore motherboards from Soyo. I had some problems with Gigabyte, but at least the cards didn't wiggle out of the damn circuit board.

I had to work until 9pm today because the boss wanted to talk. When he wants to talk it's like I'm 6 years old again and I've come home with bad grades on my report card. Funny thing was that initially he was happy, because I showed him my Western and his latest little idea was proven somewhat right. Of course then he wanted to discuss all these related things, etc. He's one of these people who is ALWAYS either annoyed or angry or at best, dissatisfied with whatever he is observing. He's always got a dead-blank look on his face or occasionally an annoyed contort. And after he says something he just keeps staring at you with this look for literally 10 or 15 seconds. Everybody just squirms when they talk to him because of it; I think I age 6 months every time. But I kind of like being in the lab after everyone else leaves, just running gels and farting around. No windows in the lab so I don't have to keep track of time. I only pay attention to my stopwatch and the timers, not the wallclock.

Tomorrow I'm going to take my bike to the shop finally. We'll see how long it stays there (I guess 2 weeks).

Why not get you a USB-Ethernet connector? That way you won't have to worry about faulty NIC cards?

Ooooo... and AOpen is a good motherboard company... Their motherboards actually TALK...

I've never heard of a USB ethernet connector. I'll have to check if I have any open ports. I've got like 10 or 12 USB ports on this box but I've got a lot of devices. This board has an onboard RJ45 socket but for some reason I SBC's DSL modem won't work with it, only the card they sent me. I could definitely use the extra PCI slot, I'm tapped out.

I usually use motherboards.com to get my boards. I will check to see if they've reviewed AOpen.. I always dug Gigabyte because they're so crammed full of stuff and had their fancy BIOS.

Here's USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 versions. Both made my D-Link. I've seen these used by a lot of people that I do work for, and they work rather well.

Besides, you can always get a 4-port USB Hub... I think you can use 128 USB devices before the transfer rate slows down on 1.1? *scratches head* I forget.

I know how it is not having an extra PCI slot. I've been trying to get me an AGP Vid Card to replace the VooDoo3 2000 that's taking up my last PCI slot. Then I can stick in a new NIC, and not have to worry about using the USB NIC.

*noddles* Gigabyte has had good motherboards before, and I did like them. But I think AOpen motherboards talking to me is what sold me.
