I got bored and set up SETI@home. It beats my old screensaver, which was just random French and German phrases translating themselves. Hope it doesn't suck too much power, my bill's high enough already..

I've always wondered. Do you get a plaque if you discover a transmission in one of those streams you process. ;x)

Note about the software. Unless you have a speedy CPU be sure that its set to screensaver mode only. There is an option to have it always run in the background. It keeps your CPU kicking up in the high 80-90% usage range. It won't burn the CPU out but for any intense app usage such as gaming or movie watching it can become annoying. There is a side method to handling this. Set the exe as below normal priority for the CPU and that takes some of the bite out of the app. *shrugs* Just an FYI if you didn't know already.

Oh and they have a similar app for cancer research. Kinda cool watching the diff molecular combinations dance across the screen.

Re:
Thankfully I was aware of the background mode and did not want it. My computer's already running at 386 speed here..

What's the url for the cancer research one? I'd rather see the chemistry on my screen than Fourier transform..
