single servings on the fly

I took the Crecy outside to cut another of those flimsy mats but it didn't work so well.  They are so floppy that I can't tell how it would hold up if it were held stably.  I looked in my fridge for some meat and lo and behold, I had a well-expired 5-8 pound pork tenderloin cased in plastic.  I set it up and cut it a few times.  It wasn't sitting very stably, but I sliced through it well enough on most of the cuts.  Oh man did that thing STINK.  In fact it made the blade stink afterwards, and some slight dark staining of the steel.  Meat does that, I imagine.  I cleaned the blade with water and then rubbing alcohol until it didn't stink anymore, dried it, and coated it lightly with 3-in-1 oil.  Maybe tomorrow I'll buy some fresh meat and find a stabilizer.  I'll also buy a gun case for shipping/storage if I can, and then maybe ship this sword out either this week or early next week.

I think I'm going to pack much less clothing for my trip next month, as it will hopefully save me from packing 4 bags (including the poster tube) and/or buying another damn piece of luggage, since the hotel has both same-day drycleaning and self-serve laundry.  I was planning on doing this at AC next year as well, but I'll think about that way down the road.
